Honkpad

Play a sound or meme when viewers redeem channel points

To play a sound on a channel point redemption, create a custom reward in Twitch, then bind it to a sound in a tool that sees redemptions. Honkpad sees rewards that require viewer text without a Twitch login. Rewards without text need a logged-in tool such as Streamer.bot forwarding to Honkpad, or an extension like Sound Alerts or Blerp.

Before you start

Channel points are available to Twitch Affiliates and Partners (Channel Points FAQ). Custom rewards can require the viewer to enter text (Channel Points Guide). That option matters for Honkpad: a redemption with text also appears in chat, which Honkpad reads without a login.

Honkpad with a reward that asks for text

  1. In your Twitch Creator Dashboard, create a custom reward, for example Air horn, and turn on Require viewer to enter text.
  2. Install Honkpad from the download page and add its overlay to OBS (how).
  3. In Honkpad, open the meme, add a Channel points trigger and click Use the next redemption.
  4. Redeem the reward once on your channel. Honkpad stores its reward ID and the meme plays on every later redemption.
  5. Optional: let the voice read the viewer's text, or show it as the caption.

During early access all rewards are free. After early access, Free includes 5 channel-point rewards.

Rewards without text: forward them with Streamer.bot

Streamer.bot logs in to Twitch and sees every redemption. Add a Fetch URL action that sends the redemption to Honkpad's local event address, then bind it with Use the next redemption. Full recipe: Streamer.bot guide. Forwarding events other than chat is a Pro integration, free during early access. Streamer.bot runs on Windows; its macOS support is experimental.

Extensions: Sound Alerts and Blerp

Sound Alerts offers sound and video alerts for channel points, and its standard account allows up to 30 extension alerts (help); Premium raises that to 50. Blerp offers 50+ channel point reward sounds for free and a library of over a million user-made sounds (blerp.com). Both also let viewers pay with Bits. They are web services shown through an OBS browser source and can create rewards for you, which Honkpad can't do yet.

FAQ

Why does Honkpad need the reward to ask for text?

Honkpad reads Twitch chat anonymously, without a login. Twitch posts redemptions that include viewer text in chat, so Honkpad can see them; redemptions without text are only visible to tools logged in to your channel. A Twitch login for Honkpad is not built yet.

Can a reward play a GIF as well as a sound?

Yes. In Honkpad a meme is a sound plus a GIF or video and a caption, and a redemption plays all of them in the OBS overlay.

Do channel points work if I'm not an Affiliate?

No. Channel points come with Twitch Affiliate or Partner status (Twitch FAQ). Chat commands work on any channel; see chat sound commands.

Can I add a cooldown to a redemption sound?

Yes. In Honkpad each meme has its own cooldown and an optional maximum number of plays per stream, on top of the pause between chat memes. Twitch's own reward settings are described in its Channel Points Guide.
